Guyana – Established history of mining

U3O8 Corp’s exploration is focused in the Roraima Basin in Guyana, South America – a geological look-alike to the prolific Athabasca Basin. Guyana is a mining-friendly jurisdiction with its mining regime established in the 1980’s and without many of the regulatory challenges posed by other jurisdictions.

Most viable access. The Roraima Basin straddles northern Brazil, Venezuela and Guyana. Guyana offers the most viable entry to the Roraima Basin compared with the politically challenging situation in Venezuela, while in Brazil, uranium is considered a strategic commodity that can only be explored by a State entity. U3O8 Corp’s exploration area is accessible by air, road and river. Our extensive operations involve over 130 employees based in a camp adjacent to the Aricheng airstrip, which is centrally located within the area in which Areva made the original Kurupung uranium discoveries.

British Commonwealth. Guyana is a stable republic within the British Commonwealth with an elected Head of State. Independent since 1966, English is the official language of this established democracy.

Mining-friendly regime. Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) manages the nation’s mineral resources and promotes foreign investment and mineral development in Guyana. GGMC reports to the Minister of Mines, The Honourable Samuel Hinds and is also the country’s Prime Minister who has actively supported the mining industry. Situated on the mineral rich Guyana Shield, Guyana has attracted international interest from the world’s largest mining companies and is known for its undeveloped resources including bauxite, copper, gold and uranium. The development of the country’s mineral resources is viewed as a key economic growth strategy.

Guyana is an experienced ‘mining’ country, operating efficiently and expeditiously in granting reconnaissance permits and prospecting and mining licences within a favourable regulatory framework. U3O8 Corp. has established excellent working relationships with the Prime Minister, senior executives and staff members of the GGMC, and continues to demonstrate our commitment to Guyana and its local communities.
