Responsibility to local communities
Field team
U3O8 Corp’s commitment to responsible exploration means respect for our local neighbours and developing supportive community relationships and special projects to create tangible, long-term benefits for Guyana.
Over 85% of our employees are from Guyana, with more than 65% from the Amerindian community, Guyana’s indigenous people. Ten pupils are participating in the University of Guyana’s geology degree program under U3O8 Corp’s student sponsorship initiative. We are establishing early communication and good relations with local Amerindian communities in our exploration areas. And we are making lasting contributions by providing school books and supplies, mechanical assistance, tools, computers and training and knowledge sharing.
We ensure that our exploration work on Amerindian land is done in a manner that is acceptable to the land-owners. We rely on guidance from the local communities. Formal negotiations with the Amerindian communities are undertaken under the auspices of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs with the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission in a tripartite system that provides for open dialogue and transparency.
